I agonize over hotel choices. Which neighborhood should we stay in? How much should we spend? Will the hotel actually look like the pictures? Never mind what Trip Advisor or any other "advisor" says...opinions are subjective including mine. Well, we happily scored big at Hotellino; a contemporary, boutique style hotel in the Sirkeci area with a difference - Mine (prounced "Mina"), the friendly, hospitable owner who can't do enough for her guests.
In over 40 years of traveling, this was the first time I have EVER seen a hotel owner take her time to offer suggestions, maps and recommendations to all guests on a daily basis. Yes, the hotel had beautiful and comfortable rooms, an excellent staff, tasty and large buffet breakfast, but she made the difference between ordinary and wonderful. Hotellino even kept a stash of Istanbul Transportation Cards for guests to borrow, load at designated points with Turkish Lire for use on all public transportation - bus, metro, trams and ferries; a time-saving and money-saving gesture.
A great location! Wherever a traveler could possibly want to go was within walking distance and there is no doubt that Hotellino will be our choice the next time we visit Istanbul, a city that is never boring...
